Combat Cogitator · free beta · 11th edition

Know the odds before you roll.

Pick an attacking unit and a target, set the scenario, and Combat Cogitator rolls the fight 10,000 times. You get the average damage, the models slain and the odds of wiping the unit, before a single die hits the table.

Combat Cogitator showing a battle report: average damage, models slain and wipe odds for a matchup
A battle report: the matchup, the dice it rolled and what they did.

Built for the current game

Every faction and every current datasheet, with the rules that actually move the numbers.

Every current datasheet

Over 1,000 units across all 11th edition factions. Legends units are left out, so the lists match what you can field.

Abilities and stratagems

Pick up to three detachments. Datasheet abilities, detachment rules and stratagems appear as switches you turn on and off.

Leaders and loadouts

Attach a character to a unit and set each model's wargear, so a squad with one special weapon fights like one.

The whole scenario

Half range, Heavy, cover, plunging fire, the charge, and whether either unit is on an objective. Conditional bonuses turn on only when they apply.

Faction mechanics

Power from Pain, Dark Pacts and For the Greater Good, each with its options laid out as choices.

Results you can read

Average damage with overkill shown, models slain, whether the unit is wiped or broken to half strength, and a full odds table.

Three choices, one answer

No spreadsheets and no rules lookups mid-game.

  1. 1Choose the attacker

Faction, detachment, unit, leader and loadout.

  2. 2Choose the target

Its own abilities and defensive stratagems come along with it.

  3. 3Set the scene

Shooting or melee, range, cover, the charge and objectives. The result updates as you go.

Questions about the simulator

How accurate is it?

It follows the core rules for hitting, wounding, saves and damage, plus weapon abilities like Lethal Hits, Sustained Hits, Devastating Wounds, Lance and Melta. Unit abilities and stratagems are read automatically. Anything it can't apply on its own, you can set by hand under Adjust modifiers by hand.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Open it in your phone's browser and add it to your home screen. After the first visit it works without a signal, which helps at stores with patchy reception.

Something looks wrong. How do I report it?

Join the list on the home page and reply to any email with the units, the scenario and what you expected to see.
